With tears whelming in his eyes, he gave us the look of Gratefulness.. we were speechless.. all we could react was to give him a warm handshake as we left the house..
Earlier in April, i became part of the group of House Makeover organised in line with the Upcoming Asia Conference..
The objective of this event is to give a whole new outlook of a chosen Low Income family.. The concept is similar to that of Channel 8 programme:
If u haven seen a one room flat, it is being shown in this program..
The flat we were assigned to belongs to an Indian Muslim in his late 80s who lives alone.. not much was known about the reason though we learn from another neighbour that he has a Wife and child living in India.
Due to that, his house was practically empty except with a cabinet, table and a Tv, there was no bed for him to sleep on..
So much was to be done and purchased and much planning was done by Jacqueline and Victor from date of visitation to the actual day, 7 May 2010.
Gathering time was at 8am on Saturday and upon reaching the house, we get done to work immediately.. started by cleaning the windows & painting..
Furnitures was brought in subsequently and by evening 6pm, everything was almost complete, wall was painted light yellow which gave the whole house a very welcoming look, coupled off with the bed, curtains, chair, household items and can foods for him..
Before leaving, a Muslim praying mat, a hamper and a group photo taken with him placed in a photo frame was given to him.
As he held the mat in his hands guess it was too overwhelming for him..within a day, his whole house was transformed, he have a bed to sleep in, walls painted and an almost whole new house.. As we left, he stood near the gate watching us..
Being a viewer of Life Transformer, it amazes me how the volunteers sweat out to bless every individual family.. what seems to air an hour on tv is actually a whole day of labour behind..
and never will i thought i will have an opportunity to experience this..though by end of the day, i was literally physically wear out and muscles aching.. i can't help but to be glad that i was part of the team to be the difference to his life..
God Bless him..
Lastly, i got to mention, by the introduction of Jacqueline, we saw this ordinary man who have an extraordinary heart.. what does he do?
Daily meals of the elderly that live in the 1 room flat are provided by him..
that's what i call making a Difference! =)
