Sigh..
Went to the library yesterday to borrow some cookery book to pick up cooking & decide to cook up a dish or two from the book.
Thus, after reaching home from church today, flipped through the book and saw 2 dishes which looks less complicated and told my mum to accompany me to buy the ingredients necessary for it.
Spend around 45 mins in the super market as there were much ingredients needed.. for the first time, i really search through the whole supermarket departments by departments.. and spend quite a sum of money..
On reaching back home, i started to prepare by following the instructions on the book.. this is my 2nd time in attempting to cook.. the very 1st time, was centuries ago, i was 17 to 18 plus..that time, i also borrowed book to learn cooking.. tt time my mum was the one doing most of it, i just told her what ingredients to purchase and i only manage to touch the wok a while then she took over.. since then, i was just simply too lazy to step into the kitchen again.
My very first dish for today was Thai marinated chicken stir fried in chilli oil..it simply looks delicious in the cook book.
Spended 1 hour plus to marinate the chicken pieces & keep it in the fridge to marinate for an hour.
Then i move on to make some deep fried Wontons.. the Wontons were much simpler.. settled it with an hour..
I was quite satisfied when both dishes were done..as this is the very first attempt of my cooking without any help from my mum.. so i was excited when i took it to the dining table and awaited for my mum & dad to eat it...
But..
The dumplings were edible & taste not bad when i put it into my mouth but it was damn hard..maybe due to my braces or so..thus didn't really like it a lot.
Next was the chicken dish, in appearance & smell wise, it looks appealing but when i place it into my mouth........i was damn disappointed. It tasted bitter & awlful..
My mum told me that i had over put certain ingredients thus resulting in such taste..which i did, i had added 1 to 2 more tablespoon of ingredients to what was written on the book cause i felt it wasn't enough.
I'm such a Smart Alec..
Sigh.. there was a lot left.. it would be such a wastage to dump it away and thus i force myself to eat some.. and my mum was really nice, she ate some too..but being a fussy eater myself, i really couldn't tolerate the taste..it is just so awlful..
The Taste of failure is bad..esp after i have put in so much effort.
Up till now..i feeling damn sad.. felt that i wasted money & time.. though i know this is my first time and failures are unavoidable..afterall, i shld be numb to failure..i had failed in much other stuff before but have succeeded after refusing to admit defeat.
but the failure feeling is set deep into my heart.. i am just so sian.. guess i wld recover only tomorrow morning..
Took some photos of the food:-Initially while cooking, i thought i would be happily blogging abt my success by posting pictures of the food but now it's just a reminder to myself to improve the next time round.
It look out of shape though..

The alien looking wontons(on side of plate) were created when i got bored of making it the ordinary way and thus decided to do something different.. My mum helped in making too..if not i would take ages to finish wrapping.
Every woman hates this part.. we are just afraid of getting burnt by the oil.
That's my main reason for not cooking tiill now.
But i manage to overcome it by telling myself that i can do it. if not, i can never be able to cook.
Tadah.. here comes my deep fried wontons.. though it doesn't appealing. but at least it is edible.. if i have failed in such a basic stuff..i would have swore to myself that i will never take up cooking ever again. My Supposedly Thai marinated Chilli oil chicken dish.
The chilli was an attempt to make it look presentable..
Sigh..wasted 2 packets of chicken.. my mum told me she won't throw it way..she will edit it by re-cooking it with other sauces for dinner tomorrow.
Nevertless, i am not going to raise my white flag so fast.
I shall try & try in brushing up my cooking skills till it's perfected.. and also taking lesser time to cook.. If i were to take 3 hours to prepare 2 dish.. next time, if i were to ever get married.. my husband wld faint from hunger just by waiting for me to cook finish.
I predict the next time i touch the cookery book would be 1 month from now..
Meanwhile.. maybe i should consider buying the Idiot's/Dummy Guide to Cooking book.
